Free egg production log template
For small flock owners and farms that sell eggs. Each day, enter the hens in the flock, eggs collected, eggs you could not sell and feed used. The template works out the lay rate, sellable eggs and dozens, feed cost per dozen, egg sales at your price, and whether laying went up or down from one week to the next.

How the formulas work
Lay rate per day
Eggs collected divided by hens in the flock. 38 eggs from 48 hens is a 79.2% lay rate. Update the hen count the day you lose or add a bird, as on day 9, so the rate stays honest.
Lay rate for the period
Total eggs over total hen-days (the sum of daily hen counts), not the average of the daily rates. It weighs each day by the birds you actually had.
Whole dozens and leftovers
INT drops the fraction, so you get the full cartons you can sell. B24 uses MOD to show the loose eggs left over. Doing this on the total, not per day, stops you losing a carton to rounding every day.
Feed cost per dozen
Feed cost divided by sellable dozens. Here $40.68 of feed made 42.3 sellable dozen, so feed alone costs $0.96 a dozen. Add cartons, bedding and your time for the full cost.
Make it yours
- Collect and count at the same time each day. Late collection means more dirty and cracked eggs.
- Weigh feed when you fill the feeder and note the date; a lb figure per day is fine as an average between fills.
- Copy the sheet for each month. A falling lay rate across months shows molt, short days or an aging flock.
- Note anything unusual (heat, a predator scare, new birds) in a column to the right so the dips make sense later.
FAQ
How do I calculate lay rate for my hens?
Divide eggs collected by the number of hens: =C7/B7 for a day. For a week or month, divide total eggs by total hen-days, the sum of the daily hen counts.
How do I convert eggs to dozens in Excel?
Divide by 12 for the exact number of dozens, =E21/12. For whole cartons use =INT(E21/12), and =MOD(E21,12) for the eggs left over.
How do I work out feed cost per dozen eggs?
Multiply the pounds of feed used by the price per pound, then divide by the dozens of sellable eggs from the same period: =ROUND(feed_cost/(sellable_eggs/12),2).
