Free chore chart template with points and allowance

For families who want chores to count without arguing about who did what. Each chore has an owner and a points value; put an x under the day it gets done. The chart counts the ticks, adds up each child's points and turns them into allowance using the cents per point and the weekly bonus you set. Print it for the fridge or keep it on a shared laptop.

How the formulas work

Count the days each chore got done

K2=COUNTIF(D2:J2,"x")

COUNTIF counts the x marks across Monday to Sunday. Any other mark (a dash, a note) is ignored, so stick to x. Uppercase X counts too, because COUNTIF is not case-sensitive.

Turn ticks into points

L2=IF(C2="","",K2*C2)

Times done multiplied by the chore's points. Harder or less popular chores (dishes, laundry) earn more per tick, which is the fairest way to balance a chart between kids of different ages.

Add up each child's points

B19=SUMIF($B$2:$B$12,A19,$L$2:$L$12)

SUMIF adds Points earned only on rows whose Who matches the name in A19. Copy the row down for a third child and type their name in column A of the summary; the names must be spelled the same as in the Who column.

Work out the allowance

D19=ROUND(B19*$C$14/100+IF(B19>=$C$16,$C$15,0),2)

Points times cents per point, divided by 100 to get dollars, plus the weekly bonus if the points goal in C16 was reached. In the sample Maya earns 30 points, exactly the 30-point goal, so she gets $7.50 plus the $2 bonus: $9.50. Leo's 24 points come to $6.00.

FAQ

How do I make a chore chart in Excel?

List chores in column A, who does them in column B and points in column C, then put the days of the week across the top. Count the x marks per row with COUNTIF and total each person's points with SUMIF.

How do I calculate allowance from chore points?

Multiply each child's points by a rate, for example =B19*$C$14/100 for a rate in cents per point, and add any bonus with IF when they reach a goal.

Does this chore chart work in Google Sheets?

Yes. Open the .xlsx in Google Sheets; COUNTIF, SUMIF, IF and ROUND work the same way there.
