Conditional function
Excel SUMIFS function
SUMIFS adds up a column but only for rows where all your conditions are true. Use it for questions like "West region sales of laptops" or "sales between two dates". The column to add comes first.
=SUMIFS(sum_range, criteria_range1, criteria1, ...)Arguments
sum_range- The cells to add up.
criteria_range1- The first range to test.
criteria1- The condition for that range, like "West" or ">=1000".

Common SUMIFS mistakes
Putting sum_range last
That is SUMIF order. In SUMIFS the column to add always comes first.
Ranges of different sizes
All ranges must be the same size, or SUMIFS returns #VALUE!.
Expecting OR between conditions
SUMIFS needs every condition to be true. For "West or East", add two SUMIFS together.
SUMIFS FAQ
What is the difference between SUMIF and SUMIFS?
SUMIF handles one condition with the sum range last. SUMIFS handles one or many conditions with the sum range first.
How do I sum between two dates in Excel?
Use =SUMIFS(amounts, dates,">="&start, dates,"<="&end), where start and end are cells holding real dates.
Why is SUMIFS returning 0?
One of the conditions never matches. Look for trailing spaces, dates stored as text, or a typo in the criteria.
Can SUMIFS use OR logic?
Not directly. Add separate SUMIFS together, or use =SUM(SUMIFS(D:D,B:B,{"West","East"})).
