Build it step by step
Step 1
Start with the deck area: length times width. Write it in B8.
Step 2
Boards run along the 16 ft length, so the rows stack across the 12 ft width. Convert the width to inches and divide by the board width plus gap in B3, rounded up to whole rows. Write it in B9.
Step 3
Joists run across the width, spaced along the 16 ft length. Count the spaces (length in inches / spacing, rounded up), then add 1 for the joist at the far end. Write it in B10.
Step 4
How many boards to buy? Add the waste allowance in B5 to the rows in B9 and round up. Write it in B13.
Step 5
Cost for each item is quantity times unit cost. Write it in D13, fill to D15.
Step 6
Quote price: total cost with the markup in B6, rounded to cents. Write it in D17.
